How to properly clean your motorcycle with a pressure washer?
Here are the steps to follow for successful motorcycle cleaning with a pressure washer:
Step 1: Prepare your motorcycle
Start by parking your motorcycle on a flat, stable surface. Remove saddlebags, top case and other removable accessories. Cover electrical parts that are sensitive to water (headlights, meters, etc.) with plastic bags.
Step 2: Pre-rinse
Use the Karcher to pre-rinse your motorcycle at low pressure. Start with the dirtiest parts like the rims, suspensions and underbody. This will soften the dirt and make cleaning easier.
Step 3: Apply a degreaser
Spray a special motorcycle degreaser over the entire surface of your machine. Leave it on for a few minutes for the product to take effect. Don't hesitate to scrub with a soft brush to remove stubborn dirt.
Step 4: High pressure rinse
Then rinse your motorcycle with the pressure washer lance, keeping a distance of about 30 cm . Start at the top of the motorcycle and gradually work your way down. Pay particular attention to the dirtiest areas.
Step 5: Drying
Once you're done rinsing, use a microfiber cloth to dry your motorcycle thoroughly. Start with the most fragile parts like the gauges and headlights. Also remember to dry the rims and spokes thoroughly.
Step 6: Maintenance
Finally, apply a special motorcycle care product to the paint, chrome and leather. This will protect them and restore their shine.
Additional Tips
- Avoid directing the jet of the pressure washer directly onto the bearings, universal joints and seals. This could damage them.
- Clean your motorcycle regularly, at least once a month. The longer you wait, the more tedious the cleaning will be.
- Remember to maintain your Karcher so that it remains efficient over time. Clean the lance and the water filter regularly.
